POPULATION
Zanzibar consists of a multiracial and multicultural community. It is a society of many faiths and of different origins. Almost the entire population is of mixed races primarily of Arab and African decent and blended with local culture. The current population of Zanzibar according to 2002 census is 984,625 inhabitants with an annual growth rate of 3.5%.
HOW TO GET TO ZANZIBAR
BY AIR: There are a number of international airlines that have flights to Zanzibar, including Kenya Airways, Air Tanzania, and South African airlines. In addition to these, you can opt for cheap flights to Zanzibar by booking a seat with one of the international carriers that fly into the capital of Tanzania.
These international carriers include British Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Emirates. Once you arrive at the capital city, you can then look into airfare to Zanzibar from one of the local carriers that conduct domestic Zanzibar flights.
BY SEA: Regular fast ferries operate between Dar – es Salaam, Zanzibar and Pemba. A ferry to Dar es Salaam from Zanzibar range from 75minutes to 90minutes and the same for a ferry from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, and a ferry to Pemba from Zanzibar can take about 3 hours depending on weather.
