Masai mara game reserve
Masai mara game reserve is one of natures greatest spectacle ever to unfold on planet earth. The reserve derives it’s name from the numerous hills that it has which have green vegetation on top thus appearing like some huge spots and patches looking it from a panoramic view. Mara is a Masai word meaning “patches” so the landscape appears to have many patches so the indigenous Masai community named the reserve a reserve of many patches. “Masai Mara”
with an area of 1,750 square kilometers,Masai Mara will amaze you with it’s endless landscape and wildlife that roam freely inside the Mara and the Serengeti.
The great wildebeest migration which occurs in the months of July to October is the eighth wonder of the world and it occurs right here in the “Mara”
Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest from the Serengeti unite to migrate. With a great sense of smell, they are attracted by the fresh sprouting grass in the Mara. The scent in the air is irresistible and they are left with no option other than to do the unthinkable. They will have to trek hundreds of kilometers and cross the river Mara which infested by crocodiles and hippos who will do the necessary to protect their territory. This is quite a huddle but it does not suffice as a challenge to the wildebeests.
The river Mara traverses this great reserve and flows all the way to the Mau forest. This river is infested with crocodiles which always crave to devour when the great migration approaches. crocodiles are one of the few reptiles which can shut their metabolism with a single heartbeat per minute during the dry season to avoid food intake. They do that timely awaiting the migration.Once the ground trembles with the wildebeest steps the crocodiles wake up craving to devour some wildebeest meat with their famous death rolls.
Apart from crocodiles the reserve is a natural habitat for numerous prides of lions, cheetahs, leopards, black rhino, elephants, buffaloes, the Masai giraffes, zebras, gazelles, antelopes, hippos, dikdiks and also the topis.
Come and enjoy the beautiful landscape scenery and the natural wildlife that dwell in this great game reserve.
